great grill! February 16, 2010 Red Rover This grill is really nice. Cooks evenly, is well built, and is easy to assemble. What more could you ask for?
Glad I got it October 26, 2009 StanTheMan (L.A., CA) This is the first gas grill I've ever owned, but for what it's worth I think this is a good unit at a good price - especially if you don't have to pay for shipping!
It's feels pretty substantial, unlike similarly priced grills at Home Depot. Pretty easy to assemble - the only tough part is moving the huge box that it came in. And there's some long chain that isn't mentioned in the instructions. Still wondering where that goes.
The only thing I don't like is that the side tables get pretty hot. If you leave a plate on them it can get a little too hot to handle.
Not the Ducane you remember September 22, 2009 Brian (Ferndale, MI USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Ducane Affinity 3100 propane version arrived today.
All parts were in one box .. three major parts were dented or chipped.
Assembly instructions are good, it all went together in less than an hour even with a bunch of interruptions.
Alas, the only resemblance this has to my 15+ year old Ducane is the name. While I cannot tell yet about the quality of the burners or valves, it is clear that Weber seriously downgraded the quality of the cabinet and surfaces one expected from Ducane.
Overall fit was not terrific, and there were chips in the paint around the firebox - the area subjected to the most abuse and most likely to rust over time.
Three nice features of the old grill: one set of large wheels which allowed movement on bricks or grass, phenolic handles on the left and right of the lid which never got hot and a side work surface with a removeable cutting board which easily went into the dishwasher or allowed one to assemble in the kitchen and move to the grill.
The new grill has small wheels which cannot go onto grass and are rough on brick. The now common front bar to lift the lid gets rather warm, and requires you to put your arm right over the hot grill and subject your arm to the escaping/rising heat. The work tables of the 3100 got uncomfortably warm and are permanently attached to the grill requiring outside cleanup.
The fact that it is made (mostly? entirely?) in China is sad - Ducane was mostly US made in the past, and I liked knowing people were earning a real living here in the US.
I will be interested to see how this grill holds up - I doubt I'll get 15 years from it.
Early Returns September 2, 2009 G. Schuler (San Francisco, CA) I bought this grill after several hours of research because the brand Ducane is owned by Webber. I read that the components are very dependable, which was the highest priority on my list. I've owned this grill for 3-4 months and cook on it a few times a week. It cooks very evenly. Assembly was straightforward. I'm happy so far.
Nice grill August 18, 2009 tiger8mush (Connecticut) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Friends always comment on the grill and how nice it is. Doesn't cook 100% evenly so I can't give it 5 stars, but it does cook much more evenly than the $100 Sears brands I've purchased in the past. It's got enough space for a small-medium (25 person) cookout IMO. Well designed and great craftsmanship. Very sturdy, wheels around the deck nicely, and makes good use of propane considering the 3 burners. I recommend it, assuming u're okay with not getting 100% even cooking, but very close.
