Amazon.com Review Weber's One-Touch Gold kettle grill is a great buy for anyone looking for a classic model with a few convenient extras. The design is sleek. The results are delicious. As with all Weber grills, this kettle's lid and bowl are constructed of premium porcelain-enameled steel--which means not only does heat radiate evenly, but the grill will survive if it's left out in the rain. The cooking surface (22-1/2 inches in diameter) is big enough to accommodate six large steaks, twice as many burgers, or up to a dozen kebabs, and the grill's classic kettle shape keeps flare-ups to a minimum. When designing this grill, Weber clearly kept convenience in mind. The grill's nickel-plated grate has two built-in hinged side openings that make adding more charcoal briquettes easy and safe, and, when the lid's not in use, it can hang from the bowl by a handy hook. The grill is durable, too. The porcelain-coated steel bowl and lid are exceptionally strong and designed never to rust, fade, or peel. The grill's aluminum vents and ash catcher won't rust either, and its tripod base, nylon handles, and all-weather wheels--besides being exceptionally sturdy--make the grill remarkably easy to maneuver. Weber's patented One-Touch cleaning system--a clever setup of lever-activated blades--sifts ash out of the kettle and into a cooking-pot-shaped ash catcher. You never have to get your hands dirty--and emptying the kettle takes only a few seconds. To top it all off, Weber throws in a 31-page owner's guide filled with cooking tips and time-tested recipes for grilling everything from pork chops to bratwurst to Cornish hens.
Product Description Choose charcoal for that authentic smoky BBQ taste. This Weber grill is the gold standard for charcoal kettles, featuring a hinged cooking grate to make adding charcoal a breeze, plus a patented one-touch cleaning system that makes maintenance and ash removal easier than ever. Five-year limited warranty. Model 751001.

Quality Control? March 9, 2010 Capt Dials (Bullhead City, AZ) I had my reservations because of some of the "made in China" reviews on here. Mine arrived via FedEx 15 minutes ago. The box is not damaged. The lid though, is dented on the lip for about 3 inches and under one side of the lid handle you can see bare steel--this WILL rust.
The body has no issues. It's as if the lid was dropped before packing damaging the top handle and denting the lip--and it was packed anyway. Unacceptable for a 149.00 charcoal grill.
I shot Weber an email--I'll report back.
UPDATE 7 minutes after I wrote this. I AM STUNNED. While I wrote the above review I had already (as I said) shot Weber an email. When I posted the review I checked my email and they responded! NOW FOLKS THAT'S LIGHTENING CUSTOMER SERVICE! Where do you see that these days???
Still MADE IN THE USA! March 9, 2010 Edward M. (Houston, Texas United States) Not sure where those other reviewers got their information???
I called Weber this morning and verified that they only manufacture kettle grills in their factory in the USA. The Spirit gas grills are China, but pretty much every other grill is USA made.
The Gold grills is the way to go. A lot of reviews overlooked the fact that the Gold grill also gives you Stainless Steel ash removal parts in the bottom of the grill vs. the alumanized steel ones in the Silver grills.
I have an 18.5" Silver and a Green 22.5" Gold and I wish the 18.5 was a Gold level grill, but both are working just great.
Yes the plastic (nylon re-inforced) handles are not as good as the wood ones were. But the quality of everything else is still the best that's out there and WELL WORTH the price. With proper care, these grills last 20+ years. And are still MADE IN THE USA... What more could you want?
Not worth 66% more than the Silver model February 27, 2010 E A Tuckwiller, III (Houston, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Weber has deleted the thermometer and lid holder from this previously great grill. Now, for a 66% premium, the only difference between the Gold and Silver models is the ash catcher and hinged grill, what a rip! Buy the Silver model and save yourself about $60.00!
Best all around grill January 1, 2010 D. Kuntz (Illinois) If you can only have one grill this is the one to get. It's best for all around use. I also have a gas grill that I use on some week nights when I'm in a hurry and a pellet grill for slow smoking/cooking brisket on some weekends but the Weber Gold is my choice for most occasions. This one replaced the 25 year old Weber that I had since the legs had finally gone bad. I don't expect this one to last as long but if I get 20 years, I'll be happy. Do not by the cheaper version, no comparison in quality. The only con, the lid doesn't fit as snug as it did on my old one.
The best charcoal grill available, 10 years and counting... November 23, 2009 Jaronimo (NJ, the garden state) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used a number of different charcoal grills, and the Weber Gold is the best. Unless you want to spend twice the price and buy the Weber Performer, which is a Weber Gold with gas ignition, table, and a place to store charcoal. Not sure why you would want to store charcoal outside where it can absorb moisture, but that is another story.
First off the Weber is made with a thicker steel, so it retains the heat better than the cheaper, lighter, offshore made products. The grill is heavier, so you can get more than one season out of it. The ash catcher is great. Its a must have feature. Other units get ashes all over my deck, which is unacceptable, and a fire hazard on windy days.
My Weber Gold is about 10 years old. I replaced the cooking grate once. It still functions perfectly. It lives outside and only has one tiny spot of rust, where the cover got hit with a rock and it chipped the paint. One day I will get around to sanding and painting that spot so it lasts another 10 years. The aluminum portions of the grill are a little weathered, but still function perfectly. I guess if I really wanted to I could polish them up, but a little oxidation does not bother me.
The only downside I can even think about is the top handle. It is plastic, not wood. Sometimes it gets too hot to handle so I have to use a potholder if I am cooking at a very high temperature. Other than that, it is the best charcoal grill on the planet.
Sure you can buy one cheaper, but they will not last. Buy a Weber and you will leave it to your children when you die. And they will get many years of use out of it too!
